Step 1: The main thing in the kitchen is the cabinetry
If you have already chosen a company where you will order its production, then you know the timelines when the furniture for assembly should be delivered to you. By this time, you should have fully prepared the space for installation. If you plan to install the cabinetry flush or if the room has a complex configuration, be sure to call in a measurer.
Step 2: Order Cabinetry
Once you have the plan with all the dimensions in your hands and you already have an idea of how your furniture should look, come to the showroom so that the consultant can create a more detailed sketch for you. This sketch will indicate all the dimensions of the cabinets, mechanisms, places for plumbing connections, sockets, switches, lighting cables, and more.
Step 3: Choosing Household Appliances
It’s not about buying household appliances right away. At this stage, it is important to understand what will be installed to know what conditions need to be provided to connect a particular electrical appliance. For example, some cooktops operate from regular outlets, while others require three-phase power.
Step 4: Install Outlets in Places According to the Kitchen Plan
Outlets, switches, wiring – these are usually the starting points for all renovation advice. Consider where small and large appliances will be placed to ensure the necessary number of outlets, run lighting wires, and install switches. Everything should be done before the cabinetry installation work begins.

Step 5: Leveling the Wall Surfaces
Once you have sorted out the electrical work, call in painters-plasterers. It is important that the corner of the walls is perfectly aligned, as kitchen furniture will be installed at a right angle. It is necessary for the installation to proceed smoothly, and the modules fit together precisely.
Step 6: Laying the Floor and Ensuring its Protection
At this stage, you need to choose the material that will be used for the floor. But before laying it, the base itself needs to be leveled. To avoid damaging the finished floor covering during the installation of the kitchen set, it is important to protect it. This can be done using film or inexpensive linoleum purchased specifically for this purpose.
Step 7: Dealing with the Ventilation System
It is essential not only to plan the ventilation opening but also to consider how it will connect to the hood. Ensuring the effective operation of the ventilation system and doing it in an aesthetically pleasing way is crucial – exposed hoses and plastic boxes should not be an eyesore. There are two ways to address the aesthetics:
- Create a special box to conceal the hose – this method can be used even after the installation of the kitchen set;
- Position the tiles and hood under the ventilation opening – this is done during the planning and ordering stages of the kitchen.
If you choose the first option – installing a box, it should be ready by the time the assembly of the kitchen set begins.
The most popular option is along the entire length of the kitchen. In this case, the depth of the box can be less (if you want to hide it as much as possible) than the depth of the upper cabinets or greater – suitable for those planning additional lighting for the workspace.
It is important to check the draft. The simplest way is to attach a piece of paper to the ventilation opening. Doesn’t hold? Call a professional!
Step 8: Decorating the Kitchen Backsplash
There are many options for decorating the kitchen backsplash: ceramic granite, glass, natural or artificial stone, ceramic tiles, mosaic, etc. But it is crucial to understand when to install the backsplash – before assembling the kitchen set or after?
The answer to this question is simple: if the backsplash will be made of expensive and large-format material, it should be installed in the remaining space after the hood, upper, and lower modules of the kitchen set are in place. This will ensure a tight fit of the modules to the walls and avoid unnecessary material costs.
If you choose the classic path of decorating the backsplash with tiles or mosaic, there can be three different installation strategies:
Backsplash matching the color of the kitchen set. A classic option.
- If the kitchen set is in a single line and ends with a tall cabinet or refrigerator, it doesn’t matter when the backsplash is made. It can be done before or after the installation of the kitchen set. In this case, make sure that the tiles extend behind the countertop or cabinet by one or two centimeters;
- If you decide to highlight the backsplash in the interior, it’s better to install the tiles after the kitchen set is assembled. It’s important that each row has the same height.
- If you have ordered a kitchen with a corner configuration, it’s better to lay the tile backsplash after the kitchen set is installed. This ensures a tight fit to the wall of the lower module.
